AUTOTETHER, A NEW BOATING SAFETY DEVICE SIGNS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH COAST GUARD AUXILIARY ASSOCIATION, INC Autotether, a new, innovative safety product, has recently signed a memorandum of understanding to establish an alliance with the Coast Guard Auxiliary Association, Inc. to promote safe boating. Autotether, is a wireless lanyard that shuts off a boat’s engine in the event that the boat operator falls into the water. Additionally, Autotether sets off an alarm in the event that a passenger or pet wearing the Autotether sensors falls overboard. Autotether offers a special discount to USCG Auxiliary members through the Members Only link on ShopAuxiliary.com. Unlike traditional lanyards that require the operator to be tethered to the boat, the Autotether is an unobtrusive wireless unit that clips right into the ignition kill switch. It operates via a sensor worn by the operator and passengers that transmits radio waves to a receiver connected to the boat’s ignition kill switch. When the operator sensor is submerged in water, the radio waves are no longer transmitted and the communication to the receiver is instantly broken. Autotether then activates the ignition kill switch, shutting off the boat’s motor. Anyone wearing the sensors can be splashed or get wet without accidently shutting off the motor, and it can be immediately reused if submerged in water. The Autotether system also protects up to three passengers in addition to the boat operator – including small children and pets. A passenger could fall overboard and the boat operator might not be aware of it immediately and stop the boat. Autotether will sound an alarm if a passenger falls overboard. The system is easily installed requiring no tools and it operates using AAA batteries lasting over 100 hours of usage (which are included). For more information on the product go to www.autotether.com. As part of Autotether’s partnering with the Coast Guard Auxiliary Association to promote the USCG Auxiliary and boating safety, Autotether will provide requesting flotillas with information and promotional material on the technology. The promotional material will have a code; Autotether will donate 10% of every purchase using this code to the Coast Guard Auxiliary; flotillas will benefit by receiving a portion of the donation paid to the Association to help support Auxiliary programs. If your flotilla is interested in participating, contact Andrea Frickman at andrea@autotether.com or 860-884-8191.
